Dear FABAD Members,

 Our executive Committee was selected by the Society of Pharmaceutical Science of Ankara (FABAD) General Assembly on June 28, 2010 and started their duty by appreciating and honoring all the past members for their efforts that brought the society today. Our society which was established in 1966 to follow up, announce, introduce and encourage scientific researches and advancements in pharmacy, with more than 400 members so far, is the oldest actively working pharmacy society. I checked out all publications about society and interviewed the doyens of the profession to become sure of using the statement of “the oldest pharmacist society”. I would like to share with you all the information that I got either from them or pharmacy societies in Turkey and from the two published studies (Tanker M., Asil E., Türkiyede ilk eczacılık derneği, Ankara Eczacılık Fakültesi Mecmuası, J. Fac. Pharm. Ankara, 11,112, 1981 ve FABAD Pharmacetical Sciences Journal 30. special number) on history of the society. Scientific pharmacy society tradition in Turkey was started by the establishment of pharmacy society namely “Société de Pharmacie de Constantinople” on June 9, 1879.  First pharmacy journal in Turkey was published in French by “Société de Pharmacie de Constantinople”. Although the aim of the society was to contribute to the improvements of pharmacy, it failed to success even at the early days of its establishment. Cemiyet-i Eczaciyan (Society of Pharmacist; 1908) and later Osmanlı Eczacıları Cemiyeti (Ottoman Pharmacist Society; 1911) which brought together all pharmacists were established since the first society only enfranchised pharmacists in İstanbul, thus the first society was important as it caused the establishment of two societies.

FABAD was established on June 14, 1966 however, due to some changes in society regulations; society appears to be established in 1973. Our society which still presents activity from 1966 to now is the only scientific profession society and has published a journal namely “FABAD Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences”. During our period, we will work harder, try to give a high quality service,  provide all of you the opportunity to reach us easily by a brand new web site and organize seminars, conferences etc. Our major aim is to continue the activities of our society and publish many scientific studies in FABAD Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences
